MMANEWS.COM BLOG: UFN 23 Betting Preview

This compared to risking $5 dollars to win $1 on single favorite for example.

Making streaky bets on favorites all the time is not the way to long term incremental gains, which is really what building a bankroll is all about.

NOTE: Don't forget you can post your own blogs or read additional blogs from MMANEWS.COM staff and regular fans, by checking out our MMANEWS.COM Blog Section.

Check out all of John Specht's past blogs by CLICKING HERE.
Dana White Will Change His Mind About Women 'Never' in the UFC

by Michael David SmithOne of those camera-toting TMZ reporters who follows celebrities around and questions them as they're getting into their limos recently caught up with UFC President Dana White for a 19-second interview that you can watch here.

White briefly confirmed that heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is doing well in his recovery from surgery, then was asked, "When are we going to see women in the UFC?"

White replied, "never."

Fortunately for those of us who want to see women in the Octagon, White has shown in the past that "never" does not mean what he thinks it means.

Scenes from the UFC's weekend at Ft. Hood for Fight for the Troops 2

The UFC's Fight for the Troops 2 was not just a fight card that featured two TKOs in the co-main events, or even a fundraising event for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. (By the way, the auction and donation drive will continue until Sunday evening. Donate or bid here.) Just as Bob Hope once did, the UFC also spent the weekend entertaining the troops.

UFC fighters Brian Stann -- a veteran of the Marine Corps -- and Jim Miller signing autographs.

The Octagon Girls -- Arianny, Chandella and Brittney -- hung out on top of a tank before the weigh-ins.

Of course the UFC would have a helicopter.

The soldiers on hand presented colors, and the national anthem was sung, something that usually doesn't happen at UFC events. The sight of every service member standing at attention during the "Star-Spangled Banner" was quite moving.

The scene from Ft. Hood, which was described by our photographer Tracy Lee as one of the best UFC events she's ever been to. Considering how rarely she misses fight cards, that's quite a compliment. Kudos to the UFC for not only raising money and awareness for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, but for giving the troops at Ft. Hood a weekend where they could take their minds off the fighting that they have to face.

Fight for the Troops 2's Three Stars: Guillard, Wiman and Hominick

In addition to raising a ton of money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, the UFC's Fight for the Troops 2 also had some fantastic individual performances. That made picking the three stars from this fight not an easy feat.

No. 1 star -- Melvin Guillard: His quick striking put a stop to the Evan Dunham hype train and earned Guillard a $30,000 Fight Knockout of the Night bonus. The next question is where does this put Guillard in the UFC's lightweight division? With Gray Maynard and Anthony Pettis both waiting for already-promised title shots, it's crowded at the top, but Guillard is on an impressive four-fight win streak. Our friends at Cage Potato have suggested a lightweight, 10-man battle royale. Let's do it.

No. 2 star -- Matt Wiman: "Handsome" inundated Cole Miller, never letting his striking up as he won the unanimous decision. Though Miller is usually more comfortable on the ground, Wiman owned him there, too.

No. 3 star -- Mark Hominick: With a title shot on the line, Hominick came through, knocking out his friend and training partner George Roop. For that win, he gets a chance to take Jose Aldo's belt from him. Wait ... is that really a prize?

Honorable mention -- UFC fans: Through phone donations alone -- not counting online donations which are still being tallied -- the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund raised more than $600,000 to benefit wounded service men and women. The IFHF was so happy with the event that they are already looking forward to "Fight for the Troops 3" in 2012. Way to go, fight fans.

Nick Diaz: ?I wouldn?t mind moving up. I?d just like to get paid for it, you know??

Ending months of speculation, Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz has finally come out and openly addressed media regarding the company?s failed attempt at putting him in the ring with Jason ?Mayhem? Miller. While it was originally believed the pairing?s point of contention was weight, in fact it appears money was the primary hold-up in convincing [...]
