UFC QUOTABLES: "Choke Artist" Cody McKenzie "stoked" to fight Yves Edwards in January

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

"I'm stoked. I'm a big fan of Yves Edwards. The first UFC card I ever rented, I think I was a sophomore in high school, and he was on the card. I love that he kicked Josh 'The Punk' Thomson in the face. I'd love to kick Josh 'The Punk' Thomson in the face, too. [Thomson] talks a lot of [expletive] on my training partner, Lyle Beerbohm. Lyle Beerbohm will smash him with one hand, so I don't know why he's running his mouth. Lyle's a bad, bad dude... A lot of people call me a 'one-trick pony.' I actually call myself a choke artist. People can say whatever they want. I'm 12-0 now, all first-round finishes except my first fight, which was a second-round TKO. I'm going in there, and I'm finishing people. That's what the crowd wants to see. I think that's why I have a lot of fans. I'm here for the fans. This is the entertainment business, and I want to be the most entertaining fighter every time. I don't think I've ever had a boring fight."

-Cody McKenzie talks to MMAJunkie.com about fighting Yves Edwards at UFC Fight Night 23 and being an entertaining finisher.

Penick's Analysis: McKenzie is an absolute character, and entertaining at that. His ability to find his signature guillotine despite every opponent knowing it's coming is remarkable, but he's going to be in for his toughest fight yet against Edwards next month. He's certainly going to be an exciting addition to whatever card he's on, and if he can pull off the upset against Edwards it will make for a huge statement in his UFC career.

UFC NEWS: Rousimar Palhares vs. Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira coming to UFC on Versus 3 in March

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

A middleweight bout between Rousimar Palhares and former Brazilian Top Team teammate Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira is coming to the UFC on Versus 3 card on March 3, according to a report from Tatame.com.

Palhares had a three fight win streak in the UFC snapped in September when he was TKOd by Nate Marquardt at Fight Night 22. Prior to that, he had earned consecutive submission victories over Lucio Linhares and Tomasz Drwal.

Ferreira had compiled an 18-6 record around the world during his 11 year career prior to his UFC debut against Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122 in Novembers. However, he had a seven fight win streak snapped when "The Janitor" finished him in the first round by TKO.

UFC on Versus 3 is expected to take place from a venue in Louisville, Ky., and is to be headlined by a welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann.

Penick's Analysis: This is a good matchup between two fighters who likely know each other fairly well. Both are submission specialists, with eight of Palhares' 11 wins coming by submission and 17 of 18 wins for Ferreira coming by some form of submission. Of course, that could mean both wind up standing with each other after neutralizing the other on the ground. But this is a solid addition to the Versus card. A loss for Ferreira, though, may send him out of the organization quickly with an 0-2 record.
